Okay, so I've got this idea that(at least I think) rocks. First, let me give you some background on my idea.
In ancient Japan, during theT'ang dynasty, gunpowder invented , to make the emperor immortal. Then, they developed a weapon comprised of bamboo cases holding gunpowder, put in a big iron cannon. Bamboo or iron basket, which was like a smaller version of the cannon, that had arrows with rockets attached to them. The arrow rockets would shoot out of the miniature cannon like bullets out of a gun wood.
What I am suggesting here is a new class that would tote one of these cannons around and be able to fire at enemies across a much greater distance than a bow. Also, different weapons could be made for this class, such as a cannon that would deal splash damage to the units around the target.
I will get some pics uploaded soon to show you exactly what I'm talking about.

In short, a catapult/canon-class with catapults/canons and splash damage? I think there was a weapon like that- the the the... something. And it shot a limited amount of shots. Because that seems almost overpowered: You're allowed to carry it and it's your main weapon. >___>

But it's an interesting concept, and I'd also like to see picture to stop my wandering mind XD

Also- isn't the Tang Dynasty a reference to China? *shotwithacanon*

hmmm, i dunno about that(and frankly I don't care) but if you've ever seen the movie
"Princess Mononoke", you can see what i'm talking about in reference to the ancient cannons (also called rifles). Here's a picture from that movie of the gun

what I'm saying is this: that this gun be incorporated into Fire Emblem by giving the gun to a special class (we'll call it the "gunner class")

This class will be able to shoot his weapon in a straight path as far as the map goes, stopping only for enemies, or obstacles

Also, I thought the idea for the alchemist class was brilliant. You could almost think of the gunner class as the opposite, however. Instead of fixing objects, he could destroy them.

And finally, one element of the gunner class I would like to add is that, unlike the archer, shooting from behind a friendly unit's back should be prohibited(due to the trajectory that a bullet takes vs. an arrow).

I'll defenitely consider that. Also, great pictures (especially the last two), and great movie (I saw and loved Princess Mononoke).

Sounds like the ballistae and catapults from FE9 only with gunpowder.

Do you have any actual pictures of the bamboo cannon? I'm not denying it
actually existed or anything, I'd just like to see actual photos and not cartoon
pictures.

A gunner of any type would easily work...I don't know if I'm not contributing anything, but a portable ballista-type unit, such as a gunner would actually work fine and can be an Archer upgrade if possible. But that means the use of gunpowder in the game has to be included, but the weapon usage for guns (Ammo), that's already there considering that weapon durability number stuff...

I was thinking rather than the Gunner is a type of Archer than works like a Ballista, it can be an upgrade of an Archer, or a different variation altogether. And Archers shouldn't be able to use guns unless they're gunners. What I mean by upgrade, at the point where an Archer can promote to a Sniper, there can be another choice to be a Gunner. I don't honestly think it's a bad idea, but you just need to find a crafty way to insert this type of technology within the storyline, and the power of it...

the ballista is basiclaly a giant bow but the bambo guns have a completely difrent desien the probablty of an arecher being trained in that wepon would be very un lickley but you could'nt change the wepon triangle to the wepon spuare either. wich makes it pretty hard to import into the game.
thats my thoughts anyway

it could like bolting is for thunder magic except for a bow, ya know?

bolting power > thunder power
gun power > bow power

bolting range > thunder range
gun range > bow range

and as for not being able to train......what?

What I'm thinking is that the bamboo guns will be usuable by anyone, but just fire straight.

This is so reminds me of the cannon from Tactics Heroes, only better Razz. I think it should be that only Gunners can use it, and gunner is another promotion of the archer.
